Dating from the late 19th Century. This is a beautifully ornate and delicately crafted item. Above the double headed eagle on the front, is a black enamel triangle, bearing in gold the number 32, signifying a mason to the 32nd degree. The back of the pendant shows a black enamelled Maltese cross, with the inscription IN HOC SIGNO VINCES, also in gold, which translates as "IN THIS SIGN YOU WILL CONQUER" and is associated with the Emperor Constantine. The red cross of Constantine and the Knights of the Holy Sepulchar, within a crown, decorate the Maltese cross.
Also, on the reverse, at the very edges of the design, these words are faintly engraved: H.T.FALL, HUDSON, ST. CHOL (or THOL) and NO 14. The pendant is not hallmarked but has been tested as 18k gold. It measures 1 1/4 " long (inc. the bail but not the ring) x approximately 1 " wide. Weighing 12.2 gms.
There is some damage to the reverse of the pendant in the black enamel of the Maltese cross, a tiny chip in the enamel of the red cross and two of the four rose cut diamonds from the base of the crown are missing but could easily be replaced. Overall however, the piece is in excellent condition for its age. The craftsmanship used in the making of this pendant is superb and it carries a wonderful "well loved" feel.
