This truly delightful tea bowl and saucer hail from the early decades of the 19th Century, pre 1825.
The Saucer measures: approx. 5" in diameter and stands 1 1/4" tall (so that tea could be sipped from the saucer too, if preferred). The Cup measures: 3 1/2" in diameter and stands 2 1/4" high.
Both cup and saucer are richly decorated with hand painted flowers. Probably Morning Glory. Rich blue, deep green and yellow have all been used. There are tiny details picked out with a paint brush that must have had only one bristle or hair - they are so fine!! This detailing can be seen as veining in the leaves and greenery in general.
This Tea Bowl and Saucer date from the time when English manufacturers were learning and experimenting with the ingredients and techniques necessary to birth the wonderful English china manufacturing industry, that we are all so familiar with today. A pair of survivors!!
A wonderful gift or addition to the finest china collection.
