For the collector who demands antique clothing for her/his dolls: a mode enfantine costume, comprised of 4 separate pieces. There is a white cotton blouse, printed cotton pique skirt and jacket, and a red velveteen belt to complete the toilette. Printed pique is a scarce material for these costumes and is highly coveted, especially one in a whimsical polka dot pattern as this is.
The skirt is box pleated and set into a waistband. The jacket is a short style with open pagoda sleeves, edged with silk ribbon and set with bows. The blouse has a collared neckline and long sleeves. It closes with a pair of buttons at the throat.
The skirt length is 6 1/4" (16 cm) from the bottom of the waistband to the hem. The waist size is 7 1/2" (19 cm). The jacket is 5" (12.5 cm) across the shoulders at the shoulder seam line. The blouse sleeve length is 4 1/2" (11.5 cm) with a shoulder measurement of 3 3/4" (9.5 cm). The costume is in good condition with a bit of faint yellowing to the fabric of the skirt in some areas, one well done patch, a small rust stain and a few tiny areas of tenderness to the fabric. The silk ribbon edging to the jacket is a replacement for the original edging that had disintegrated - the color is a match to the original. The velvet belt is newly made of old ribbon and buckle to compliment the costume. The costume should fit a doll measuring 14 - 15" (35 - 38 cm) tall. Mlle. Fanny (who is not for sale) stands 14 1/2" tall and it fits her nicely. The costume benefits from a hoop crinoline and petticoats worn beneath the skirt.
