From my personal collection I present this wonderful antique original capeline, ideal for a medium-size fashion doll. It is made from grey silk with trimmings made from violet silk ribbon and passementerie fringe. As you can see from my photos of Mlle. Fanny (14 1/2" or 37 cm tall), it suits a doll of 14 - 16" very well. The measurement around the face from ribbon tie to ribbon tie is 5 1/2" (14 cm). Such headwear was very popular during the 1860's, and I date this item to that period. It would look wonderful worn with a winter toilette in coordinating colors. The ribbon ties are in good condition and can still be tied. There is some loss to the fringe around the bavolet, and a bit of tenderness to the cream silk lining. Everything is completely handsewn and cleverly designed. As Mlle Fanny will attest - it is adorable when worn!
