Likely French in origin, this cast brass bed with Rococo styling is great for display with smaller dolls in the 8 - 10" size range (20 - 25 cm). Both the head and footboards show ornate designs on the outward-facing sides, with the back sides showing the reverse of the casting. Both ends have a lovely mellowed golden patina and are in excellent condition. The head and footboards are connected by a piece of wood that creates the base of the mattress area. There is an upholstered area that forms the mattress with a covering of maroon velveteen and a matching handmade coverlet and pillows. These are all certainly later replacements, but I can imagine a clever seamstress/craftsperson making new bedding and perhaps draperies for this bed from antique silk fabrics, can't you?

The bed measures 12 1/2" long (including the ball feet), 11 3/8" between the head and footboards, 7 1/4" wide and 8" high at the highest points of the head and footboards (31.5, 28.8, 18.3, 20.2 cm). The metal portions are in excellent condition. The upholstered sections are later replacements, but in good condition.
