Fo a special doll standing about 19 - 20" (48 - 51 cm) tall, I present this mini trousseau of antique clothing. The grouping includes a navy blue wool drop-waisted dress and a set of matched undergarments of a combination chemise and drawers, a full petticoat, and also a matching nightgown with a laundry mark monogrammed "B". each item is in lovely condition and ready to be worn.
As I mentioned the dress is made of a navy wool with ornamental brass buttons up the front and on the sleeve cuffs. There is a trimming of plaid fabric around the collar, sleeves and front opening, along with a wide sash at the hip with a double bow at the rear. There is also a double row of blue and navy soutache braid near the hemline. The front opening closes with a pair of early snap fasteners, so I would date this outfit circa 1900. The dress is completely lined in muslin.
The undergarments are made of cream-colored cotton with lace trim with closures of buttons and either buttonholes or worked loops. Likewise, the little nightgown has similar lace trimmings, a placket front closure, short straight sleeves, a high neckline and a tiny "B" embroidered at the bottom of the placket.
All garments are in very good antique condition. The dress does not have any moth holes, though it does have some melting to the sateen facing beneath the collar (completely hidden). The dress measures 12" long overall, with 6" wide shoulders and 4" long sleeves (30.5 x 15 x 10 cm). The one-piece undergarment is 11" long with a loose-fitting waist of 8" (20.2 cm) and a shoulder width of 4 3/4" (12 cm). The petticoat is 7" long from the bottom of the waistband, and the waist is 7 1/2" (18, 19 cm). The nightgown is 11 1/2" long with a shoulder width of 4" (29, 10 cm). All items are are sewn by hand or a combination of hand and machine sewn. There is a tiny bit of rust staining from an old doll stand at the waist of the combination unders, but otherwise all garments are stain-free. This is a good opportunity to dress a favorite doll, or to add to her trousseau!
