So many toilettes for French fashion dolls rely upon a suitable blouse, or guimpe, as a good base layer beneath a jumper, skirt or bodice, whether for a Mode Enfantine style, or for a more mature lady's toilette. This little blouse would be good for a smaller doll, probably 14 - 15" (36 - 38 cm) tall. It is made of a shadow-stripe cotton fabric which gives a good imitation of tucking without the bulk, with sheer gauze sleeves. The entire item is trimmed with Valenciennes lace along with a pink silk ribbon about the open neckline. The garment closes with a hook and worked loop at the throat, and hangs loose from there, certainly to be tucked into a waistband. The curved seams at the back are in the French style, and gives the blouse a subtle shaping at the waistline that reduces bulk beneath the outer clothing. It is a simple piece, but oh, so useful and flattering!
The blouse is 6 1/2" long in the front and 5 3/4" at the back (16.5, 14.5 cm). The shoulders are 4" (10 cm) wide. The sleeves are 4 1/4" 910.5 cm). There is an area of tenderness where the left sleeve attaches to the front of the blouse, and there are three tiny holes in the sleeves, though not obvious ones. It is a nice addition to a wardrobe of antique clothing!
