Early Federal Sheraton southern period sideboard of mahogany and mahogany veneers. Brass encased front feet. Brass astragal on center door.
Made in the Danville, VA -- Milton NC area. Pittsylvania County VA, Caswell County,NC. There are age separations in the top as would be expected of a piece with this age. Usage scratches and minor wear can be visually corrected prior to delivery.
Handmade and very heavy. Two men cannot carry this piece. It is built from thick wide lumber.
There is some slight veneer separation from the secondary wood but this is well within our skill set to repair properly using the correct glue (hot hide glue). Originally the drawers had no pulls, they were opened by finger notches under and behind the fronts bottom of the drawers. So, the pulls wee added as a convenience and at the looks it was likely a century ago.
Is the drawing on the rear a profile of the maker? It is obvious that it has been there a long time, this is the same type of ink used at the time as we have observed on many early pieces but usually in script.
This is a real one!!
