Four poster early bed with canopy from the Caswell County North Carolina, Pittsylvania County Virginia area. Made in the 1830 era. Everything is as it should be. A great rural four poster bed. Turnings exemplify good form and balance.
The four posts are walnut. The headboard slab is tulip poplar the headboard crest is tulip poplar. This mix of woods is customary.
Measurements: Width outside to outside 59.5"; Height 89.25"; Floor to top of side rail is 26.625; Floor to bottom of side rail 22.85"; Post diameter 4.75"; Rail length 70.5"; Rail 3.5" Square ( + - .25" ); Headboard slab is 21.75 inches tall.
The canopy is mahogany, has been with the bed for decades, but it is not original to the bed. Octagon posts. Headboard octagon crest with tulip turning on each end.. A classic!
