Walnut, Victorian Renaissance Revival in style and form with a touch of Rococo and made around 1865/70. Magnificent and outstanding work. Everything original. It has a good surface, finish, color, and patina. The medallion missing in picture has been glued back on using hot hide glue.
The wood is walnut with burl walnut veneered panels. The drawers bottoms and interior are tulip poplar. The marble top is original and conforms to the shape of the base. The marble is 2+ inches thick and has one scratch which will wax out. The carvings done by true craftsmen are in very high relief and detail; quality work to be sure. Also decorating this piece are carved fruits and nuts, leafy stuff<<<----technical terminology, wolf head, scrolls--it just goes on and on.
It is in two pieces with the following dimensions. Top 74" H, 63" W, 13.5" D Bottom 39" H, 61.5" W, 22" D Total height without casters 9'5" or 113 inches widest width is 63"
The very top facade does lift off from just below the wolfs head and above the straight cornice molding.
There is nothing I can say that describes better than the photos. This is really really good. Look carefully, it just gets better and better even though the pictures do not do justice to the total.
We were told that the previous owner paid 20,000 two decades or so ago for this item at an auction in central Georgia. A fair price at that time. Too bad everything has taken a hit these last 6-8 years.
The piece will be cleaned up and any flaws that should be eliminated will be but be assured nothing will be altered that should remain as is. So far I have found no flaws.
The price includes clean up, any touch ups, waxing and possibly delivery; depending on location.
If you have been looking for a sideboard that is top of the line, real, American and of the highest elegance...this is it!!
I cannot stress enough that the pictures do not do justice to the piece. You have to come here if interested and sit and look at it over a days time. It will infect you. Promise.
