A wonderful antique Chinese rice box circa 1900. The cypress wood sides has Chinese symbols, its put together with corner dovetails and reinforced with hammered metal strips on both the upper and lower corners, the curved handle is also attached with long hammered metal strips and there is metal inserts around the top and across the curved handle. It measures 13" across the top, 7" across the bottom and approximately 8-3/4" tall including the handle.
Knowing it would be used daily, it was made strong - to last! Shows pride in workmanship and quality. The patina is lovely. It can be used for a number of uses such as a magazine rack, a rustic plastic flower box, a storage box or perhaps you can line it and use it as an orange or apple box. It could just stand on its own in a primitive room decor.
