This is an expandable sliding book rack featuring an embossed or raised bulldog head on each end. The metal is magnetic. It was manufactured by the Judd company. The identification number of 9850 is shown just under the end piece. I have unscrewed the end so you can see the number in the photos. The Judd company was located in Connecticut and began in the 1800's . Their inventory numbering system usually started with the number 9.
Size: When opened completely, the book rack measures approximately 22 1/4 inches wide. When closed, it is approximately 12 1/4 inches wide. Each bull dog end measures approximately 4 1/2 inches tall and 7 inches wide. It weighs a little over 2 pounds unpacked.
Condition: Some age discoloration to the metal. I note that one of the screws appears to be a replacement. No damage to the mechanism.
A bookrack not seen often.
