A very wonderful carving of a flying angel with traces of original paint. The angel is from the late 18th century and has retained fine detail. We have placed her on a folk art stand so, although wingless, she is flying as she was meant to have been. She appears to have been carved from a light color wood, note picture of feet. Her arms to rotate so she was originally carved in pieces or was meant to be posed for some reason.
We found the angel in a collection in Charleston, SC and she is 23" long x 5 1/2" wide at hips, 8" high by herself and 14 1/4" high on stand. A very early piece in amazing condition. It is possible she could be of Continental origin as we do not know exactly where she was carved.
