For sale we have a Wonderful Pair of Antique Painted Indian Clubs with Old Buttons Applied to the Wood. This particular form of Folk Art took place between 1860 and 1930. In recent years Indian Clubs as an expression of Folk Art have become extremely collectible. This particular pair is very rare as the buttons have a tendency to fall off after time. As you may or may not know, Indian Clubs were used as a tool for maintaining physical fitness in the early days. None of these clubs came from the factory painted or decorated in any way. In the book on Indian Clubs by Alice J. Hoffman, which I have pictured, you can see an actual photo from the book of a button appliqued Indian Club. It is always exciting to see something you have pictured in a respected publication! This pair stands 20-1/2" tall and each club weighs 2.5 pounds. They are in exceptional condition and will make a fantastic addition to someone's collection!
