An amazing antique cast iron machine stand, perfect for a table base or stand. The base was cast to hold a machine like a lathe. It was made for the Gorham Silver Co. which was founded in 1831 in Rhode Island. The name Gorham MFG. Co. 1889 is cast on the front of the tool compartment door, which is a very unique feature of this stand.
This stand would make a wonderful table base, it is heavy and could hold just about any top you attache to it. We found this piece in a warehouse in Massachusetts. The sleekness of the stand and the height are perfect for a drink stand or kitchen island.
The stand is 33" high, the base is 22" x 25" and the top is 13" x 12 1/4". The opening of the tool compartment is 8 1/8" wide x 24" high with a couple of wooden shelves inside that were made to hold tools.
