This antique sterling silver basket has a hinged handle with a shallow open profile, making it suitable to serve hors d’oeuvres or even a low floral arrangement. It also has appeal as a standalone piece. The edge has a reticular design, which is repeated on the handle.
The marks on the bottom read as follows: the Eagle and Lion, with the letter “R” on a shield; the word “sterling”, and the number “324”, followed by a capital letter “A”. The inside bottom of the basket has a large letter “K” monogram.
The basket is 10 and ½ inches long and 7 and ½ inches wide. The sides are 1 inch high, at the center, and 1 and ¾ inches high at each end. The basket is 6 and ¾ inches high, with the handle in the upright position.
The basket is in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or hairlines, circa late 1800’s.
