This carved soapstone seal is unbelievably well executed. The top of the seal is a carved foo dog and the column that the foo dog is sitting on is polished soapstone. The bottom of the polished soapstone is carved out and that's what creates the image stamp. The stamped image represents an Asian person.
The lacquer box houses the soapstone seal and the red dry ink that is used to create the image of the seal. The lacquer box is long and narrow and has a slide lid which closes tight over the base of the box.
The box measures 3" long X ½" wide X ¾" deep. The condition of the box is very good. There is some rubbing on one side of the box. The rubbing goes through the black lacquer to the red base on the side mentioned as well as on the base of the box.
The soapstone is 1 ¾" long X just under ½" wide. The soapstone is perfect with no chips, cracks or hairlines.
The circa of the lacquer box and soapstone is 1920-30's.
