This set of six (6) Gorham sterling silver butter knives have a simple, but very elegant pattern. The pattern was introduced in 1922. The center of the handle is plain and the outer borders consist of a bead edge encircled by a minute leaf decoration on the outside rim. The section of the handle that attaches to the knife blade is also a leaf motif – but personified.
The stamps on the back of each knife read “Pat. 1922 – Sterling – typical touch marks which are a lion, anchor & G”. Personally I would use these not only as bread knives, but also as cheese knives. They are truly lovely.
The knives are 5 ½” long X ½” (across handle). The blades are just over a ½” side at the widest part. The total weight of the knives is 5.06 troy ounces. The knives have been used, the condition is very good. Circa post 1922.
