This tile is strikingly beautiful. Unfortunately the tile is not stamped or numbered. The color of this tile together with the crisp detail of the figure closely resembles a photo in Kovel’s “American Pottery Book, 1993, page 286. This Cambridge tile was probably made in Covington, Kentucky about 1899. The Cambridge Art Tile Works merged with the Mount Casino Tile Works to form the Cambridge Tile Manufacturing Co.
The color of this tile is a rich blue pastel. The tile is 6” wide X 8” high. The condition of the tile is very good. There is overall crazing on the tile which is normal for a tile of this age. There are minor nicks on the edges of the tile which is to be expected since it probably was used in a fireplace surround. There are no cracks or hairlines.
The condition is very good.
