This Royal Doulton Falstaff jug is a character in the play “Henry VI & the Merry Wives of Windsor” by Shakespeare. This jug is in unbelievable condition and because of its large size, I think it’s impressive looking.
According to my Royal Doulton book (published 1980) the marks on the bottom indicates that the pattern “Falstaff” has a copyright date of 1949. Under the copyright date the marks are as follows: ‘Doulton & Co. Limited”, followed by Registry numbers “Rd No 857578 / Rd No 5905 / Rd No 75/49”. The typical lion over the crown is also present together with the made in England – Royal Doulton logo.
The jug is 6 ½” tall X 8” wide (from outer spout to outer handle), circa 1949. The jug is in very good condition with normal crazing. There are no chips, cracks or hairlines.
