A lavalier is named for the type of pendant popularized by the Duchesse de la Vallière, a mistress of King Louis XIV of France. Within the fashion world, the name was eventually shortened to "lavalier(e)". The lavalier can be recognized most for its drop, which usually consist of a stone and or a chandelier type of drop. This piece hangs from a 17" chain. There is filigree work and seed pearls on the chain where the pendant is attached. The pendant has a leaf and scroll motif and features a sapphire colored doublet at the top and a flower at the bottom of the drop. The entire pendant is accented with seed pearls. In good vintage condition and tested for purity, the necklace is crafted in 10K yellow gold with an aged patina and clasps with a secure spring ring. 2.5 DWT.
