A very nice depiction of the mythological protagonist of Leda and the Swan. A brief summary of the context of the sculpture is the myth where Zeus disguises himself as a swan and seduces Leda, wife of Tyndareus the king of Sparta. Her most notable children from this affair are Helen of Troy, Clytemnestra the wife of Agamemnon, and Castor and Pollox/Polydeuces, who become the Gemini constellation with the help of Zeus. Cast iron with ‘copper flashing’ (copper added to finish to give appearance of bronze). No markings on the pair to indicate the maker.
