American MODERN ART Oil Painting by well listed artist Sam Thal. This captivating oil painting is of a stunning woman with her basset hound reclining on her lap. Oil is on masonite measuring 24" x 20" with image measuring 19" x 15 1/2". Paining is in overall excellent vibrant condition with some very minor paint loss in scant areas; appears to be the original wooden frame. Painting is signed on mid left side as shown in photos. Sam Thal was born in New York City and he lived most of his life in Boston on Marlborough Street. Widely exhibited in the late 1930s, he was an instructor for the WPA Federal Art Project. His work is in numerous important collections and museums.
