This is an early 20th century, 1900-1920's, men's collapsible silk top hat in near excellent condition. The inner circumference measures 23". These hats were originally meant to be worn resting on top of the head or tipped forward at a jaunty angle. They were not pulled down on the crown of the head as most hats are usually worn today. The hat measures 6 1/2" in height with an outer circumference of
The inner collapsing mechanism of the hat is in perfect working order and can be opened by a mere flick of the wrist or a brisk tap on the forearm. The silk is a glossy black with no snags or tears. The lining is clean but there is a 1/2" segment where the stitching has come loose. I'm not good with a needle and thread or I would fix it myself.
This hat is really wonderful and though thought of as a men's opera hat, it can be worn by either gender. It is perfect for that dress up occasion or as a Halloween accessory. You, too, could be dancing down the street as Fred Astaire.
This hat does not come with a box.
