This is a beautiful c. 1900-1920's silk collapsible top hat that is in near excellent condition. The collapsing mechanism is in perfect working order and opens with a flick of the wrist or by taping the brim along your forearm. This hat was made in Germany, the gold label on the inside featuring the German Eagle and Weissbach Patent.
The inside circumference of the hat is 22". These hats were meant to rest on top of the head or tipped forward at an angle. They were not meant to be pulled down as we normally wear hats nowadays. The hat measures 5 1/2" in height with an an outer circumference of 35".
The brim is nice and stiff, the lining is in great condition and there are no snags, tears or scuffing to the silk. There are a few minor creases from being closed and in storage but these will go away when the hat is left open.
Perfect for Halloween or that special dress up occasion. Once referred to as a men's Opera hat, today these can be worn by either gender
