This is an exquisite ladies handbag or purse from the 1930's comprised of celluloid jump rings in ivory and black. Very Art Deco in style, this handbag measures 8 1/4" in length with an opening of 3 1/4" x 2 1/4". I've never seen anything like it. The top of the purse frame is in two pieces with an ivory cord and wooden beads that allows the top lid to slide up to open, and down to close. The side beads slide down to keep the lid in place, the cord serves as the handle.
The celluloid jump rings are in two sizes, the larger cream rings measure 3/8", and the smaller rings 1/4". The larger rings are solid and are joined together by the smaller rings. How, I do not know as I cannot figure out how to open the smaller rings. There are seams on the rings but the won't expand.
There is one small ring missing at the top edge, ( refer to picture ). Other than that one, the rest is in perfect condition, including the fringe pieces. I do not know if the purse was ever meant to be lined as there is no frame to attach the material.
There are a few light stains to the top surface of the celluloid. I have not tried to clean or remove these, I leave that to the buyer. It truly is a unique and fabulous little purse.
