This is a very pretty brooch of rose cut garnets in the shape of a crescent moon and star. It measures 1 3/8' in length and 1 1/4" in width. All the garnets are present but sadly this brooch has seen better days.
From the back side you can see the two repairs made at the connecting points of the star tips to the moon. Tiny pieces of new metal were overlaid and soldered in place. Due the the original design of this brooch, only two tiny connecting points are just not enough to hold the star securely in place. The solder points are still attached but there is wiggle and they could give out at any time.
The c clasp also has wiggle at the hinge and would need to be tightened up. I am sure these issues would be no problem for a competent jeweler, but I am not one. I can only identify the problems.
Other than that, it is a beautiful brooch from the late 1800's that could be worn with extreme care as it is. It is priced accordingly, taking the "fix" into consideration.
