Lovely genre painting of a young girl by a colonial fireplace....dated 1934, it is the work of Daniel (Gale) Turnbull (1886-1964) Mr Turnbull was born in New York, studied for several years in Paris at different Academies and under several prominent artists there, painting landscapes and portraits. He came back to the United States in the 1920's, exhibiting actively throughout the 1920's and 30's, and eventually became art director at Vernon Kilns in California. He is represented in a couple of museums, the Brooklyn Museum and the Luxembourg Museum.
The painting looks to be housed in its original frame, and both painting and frame are in excellent overall condition. The painting is 30x24, and painted on canvas.
