Here is a vintage California landscape by one of the underrated woman artists of the day, Helen Balfour (1847-1925). Balfour has a terrific resume, and exhibited for many years around California. She was the aunt of a more famous female California artist, Marion Wachtel (1876-1954), and painted frequently with her and her artist husband, Elmer Wachtel. Her paintings bear a strong resemblance to Marions work; The one I have here would be hard to tell the difference for her work. Balfour exhibited at the California Art Club, San Francisco Art Assn, and Laguna Beach Art Assn, among others.
The painting i have here is 16x20 in size, housed in a vintage frame, and is in excellent condition, ready to hang. I have used Tru Vue glass for this piece, which is both non glare and UV protective glass, so it really shows well with very little glass glare.
