Antique, 1900s to 1910s white linen larger towel, sized for what was back then a towel for washing up hands, face, and upper body at the wash stand, before there were terry loop towels available. The scalloped hems and the laurel and flower branches and wreath embroidery is machined, and the monogram K is hand embroidered. It measures 40 inches long. Very good condition, no issues, a bit of thread fray on the hem embroidery as seen, common to this machined type of hem finish. These machine embroidered linen towels that looked like hand embroidery were usually imported from the UK, at that time, and ladies would add their own hand done monograms. Machined embroidery never caught on in the USA until much, much later, as ladies in the USA were a bit shamed into thinking that it was declasse to not do all embroidery oneself, while most Europeans and most in the UK embraced it when it came out, as a huge time saver. Freshly hand laundered and ready for use.
*Payment expected at time of purchase for single item purchases. Happy to combine shipping for multiple items for actual cost only. No discounts. No shipping outside of USA. See my shop’s Terms Of Sale for details – a great time saver!
