Very vintage 1920s Artstyle chocolate candy tin, romantic fan and 18th century lovers decoration motif, well suited to the romantic action of bringing chocolates to a young lady as a gift when calling. I have a great, true story about a box of chocolates just like this brought to my grandmother in the 1920s by my grandfather, years before they were married. I did not hear this story until after a family party celebrating my wedding, hosted by my grandmother, where I was shocked to meet a great aunt whom I had never heard mentioned at all, though I knew vaguely of her existence as my grandmother's youngest sister, through family photographs, though she was never mentioned. I asked my aunt why I had never met her or heard of her before this day, and my aunt told me the story about my grandmother, her little sister, my grandfather, and a tin of chocolates
My grandfather, who dated my grandmother for ten years before they married in 1929, brought her a fancy tin of chocolates, visited in the parlor for a bit, then the two of them went for a walk, leaving the tin on the parlor table. My great aunt, who was about 5 at the time, ate two of the chocolates, and when my grandmother found out, she did not speak to her again. She didn't thaw until she was almost 80.
The tin measures eight and five eighths x five and five eighths x three and one eighths inches. It is very worn as shown, but closes tightly and the latch is still present.
