Antique late Victorian Forbes silver plated tea set, consisting of matching teapot, hot water pot in the identical size, covered sugar bowl, creamer, and waste bowl. The bodies of all pieces have what was called a French silk finish, meaning a silk fabric like surface which is finely textured, to contrast with the shiny lids, handles, and spouts. These areas have bright cut flower and leaf decoration, with shiny portions in the centers of the ring of leaves and flowers, all pieces decorated same front and back. Ornate feet, tulip flowers at the tops and bottoms of the handles, and at the bases of the spouts. The French silk finish had the added bonus of not wearing as easily as smooth, shiny silver plating, and generally such pieces are found in better condition, plating wise, than shiny pieces. The only plating wear evident on this set is on the lid of the sugar bowl at the high points of the lobes, lightly, and a more visible streak along the bottom near the rim of the lid.

The pots measure 8 inches high, and 9 inches wide across from spout to handle. The sugar bowl measures 7 inches wide across the handles, and 6.75 inches high, The waste bowl measures 6.5 inches across the handles, and 4.25 inches high. The creamer measures 5.25 inches across from spout to handle, and 4.25 inches high. Very, very good condition for age and material. Freshly hand polished and ready for use, though you may wish to do a more thorough job in the detail areas, than the one I did to ascertain condition.
