Fabulous cobalt enamel patch or snuff box from the early 19th century. Beautifully decorated with a detailed miniature painting of a young lady holding her pet dog. Raised enamel ornamentation with gold gilt highlights embellish the piece on all five sides. Bronze mountings have aged to a lovely mellow patina. There is a small gold gilt marking to the base which may be the artist signature. The box measures 2" wide by 1.5" deep by 1" deep. In excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The box closes on hinges but does not snap shut( very minor ). I am not sure of the origin. My guess would be French or possibly English. A wonderful piece to add to or start a box collection.
