Young boy stacking cards oil portrait on canvas by listed artist Alexander M. Rossi (British 1840-1916). Provenance from the Royal Exchange Art Gallery in London lists the young gentleman's name as A. R. Dreoser Junior age 4. Dressed in a charming sailor suit, he has curly red highlighted hair, blue eyes, and a ruddy complexion. He is playing with a deck of cards, stacking them into a little house. I love the way the artist captured captured his precious expression. The impressionistic feel of the painting makes it a stunning piece. The painting measures 15" high by 11" wide and framed measures 21" by 17". It is signed with the initials AMD in the upper left corner. It has been relined and is in excellent condition.
Between 1871 and 1903, Rossi exhibited 66 works at the Royal Academy and was also a member of the Hogarth Club. Many of his paintings were of children and young adults, the models often being members of his own family.
