Marion Macmillan loved the china she inherited from her mother, Hattie, and this was one of her favourite pieces. It is a substantial display dish, unmarked, but in the exact mold of plates marked Dresden Schumann Bavaria from the 1920-30 period. The colours are printed with a high degree of precision and clarity using the 'mixtion' method; blooms and garments are highlighted by hand. Gold is stencilled throughout and the rim is also hand-edged in gold. The 6.5" centre consists of four different panels. Two depict posies of bright flowers on a cobalt blue ground; the other two depict courting couples taking a stroll. The details are very fine. The textured 2" reticulated border is decorated with more bright flowers and detailed trellis-patterns of flower buds. Gold is used to highlight the artistry. The plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. There are two faint knife marks and the gilded edge is slightly worn. What you would expect from a beloved piece of china! Measures 10.5" (top); 6.5" (base); 1.5" (high).

This is part of the MacMillan Collection, assembled in the past century by Norma and Marion MacMillan and their mother Hattie. Norma MacMillan was the beloved voice of Casper the Friendly Ghost. This cartoon series was created for ABC's New Casper Cartoon Show that ran from 1963 to 1969 on Saturday mornings. Norma's devoted husband, Thor Arngrim, spent his final years living at PAL Vancouver and so a portion of sales will benefit this vibrant community of creative people (see 'Favorite Links' in left hand menu bar).
