The artist on this piece is A. van Dyke. Payne was a German publisher working in Dresden and Leipzig. He produced a number of books filled with engravings of famous European art works. Sir Anthony van Dyke was a Flemish baroque court painter who became the principal portraitist to the English royal family and set the tone for such portraits for 150 years.
