Novelty ware type Japanese porcelain teapot with a series of masks forms the sides of the vessel and another mask forming the lid, the lid handle doubling as the mustache of the face. These may be Noh masks--each is different, some with gold accents, all with lots of black painted features including eyebrows, eyes, mustaches, etc. The short spout is covered with spots of black, much like a leopard skin design. The background is a soft blue luster. The twig handle is wrapped with what appears to be bamboo, and the ends are secured by wire which hooks into an applied arch on either side of the lid. The dimensions are 5.5" wide from spout to end of handle and 6.25" high from base to top of handle. Condition is excellent.
