Victorian Fairing Trinket Box c Late 1800's
Interesting Victorian fairing trinket box circa late 1800's shaped as a miniature piece of furniture. The lid is decorated with a pocket watch face reading 4:36, a ring and what appears to be a candleholder. There is also an ornate mirror frame attached to the rear of the lid, which is missing the original mirror. The base of the fairing is signed.
The fairing is in excellent condition although the guilt and paint along the lid edge does show some wear. The Roman numerals painted on the clock face are not worn at all and are perfectly distinguishable.
Fairings were mostly made in Germany and given away as prizes at country fairs (hence the name fairing) or bought as souvenirs. This fairing weighs 8 ounces, is 3 ¼ inches long, 1 ¾ inches wide and 4 inches tall. This piece would be a wonderful addition to any collection.
Thank you for your interest in this utterly charming Victorian fairing and please feel free to browse our Ruby Lane exclusive shop, Little River Antiques & Collectibles, for other unique and exciting treasures.
