This is a wonderful and beautifully rendered reproduction of the original oil painting "The Collector" by listed artist Joseph B. Kahill. This lovely, professionally framed print depicts an older, bearded, scholarly man intently inspection a stamp through a magnifying glass in his study surrounded by books, a globe and open reference before him. The artist's signature, Jos B. Kahill and the date of the original painting 1949 appear in the lower left corner. What particularly intrigues me about this image is the outline of a face outlined in the country on the world globe.
Kahill was born in 1882 in Alexandria, Egypt and immigrated to the United States in 1925 where he eventually settled in Portland, Maine and was best known for his portraits and landscapes. His work can be seen at the Federal Building in Portland, the Maine State Capital Building, Bates College and the University of Maine. Kahill died in 1957.
This charming and faithfully reproduced print is in excellent condition with no fading or blemishes and is professionally framed in what appears to be cherry wood, the protective glass is clear and intact with just 4 very small tears in the paper backing on the frame. The frame itself is beautifully finished with a nice beaded accent and just a few tiny nicks in the wood from years of loving display.
The frame measures 26 ¾ inches by 30 ¼ inches with the sight size of this remarkable print measuring 19 ½ inches by 23 ½ inches. The framed picture weighs 8 pounds 3 ounces.
