I always catch my breath a little when I find an old box like this! The promise of what might be inside is so thrilling, and how fortunate that four of the original six ladies handkerchiefs are still present, neatly folded under the silk blue ribbon. Made of "all pure linen", there is a pretty "F" monogram in the corner surrounded by a curved vine with flowers. There is an original label still attached with gold foil die cut edges that reads "All Pure Linen, 648", matching the label on the side of the box. The hankies are an eggshell linen color, have never been used, and four are enclosed. There is no fancy lace work, just a neat and tidy delicate hem stitching along the edge. The box is very elegant in a steel grey blue color with embossed faded gold lettering on the lid. The sides of the lid show splitting and some separation, but the original label is on the front edge. Even with these condition issues, it is lovey for display and quite beautiful, reminiscent of fine ladies personal items form the late Victorian era. This box has done a fine job of protecting these handkerchiefs for the last 100 plus years. Perfect for display with your fine vanity or boudoir items, or with a hankie, lace, or other textile collection. Enjoy!
