A rare, beautiful booklet... In beautiful condition for a book over 100 years old, this was a treasured gift (there is an inscription for Christmas 1917 on title page). It is made of heavy card stock and measures 5.25 x 4.75 inches, and 1/4 inch thick. The booklet has 36 unnumbered pages, so there is some thickness and weight to this booklet. The front cover is embossed with an angel and soldier. The cover has tiny scalloped die cut edges and there are silver edges on the internal pages. Titled "Strength for the Battle" by Charlotte Murray, this is a 31-day devotional with poetry and scripture verse for each day. It was published by the Art Lithographic Co. as shown on the last page inside the back cover. There are both color and sepia tone illustrations and the binding is secured with a pink silk cord and tassel. Condition is very good, like it was hardly opened, though I do see one faint pencil mark on the back cover that I never erased (you can see on photo). And on the sixth page which is "day 3", there is a gold smudge mark ~ you can see this in the fourth photo of the listing. Oddly, it sort of blends in and I never even noticed it until writing the description! Filled with spiritual encouragement, this would make an thoughtful gift. It would display well with your other Victorian gift booklets or paper theme vintage ephemera.
