We have offered here a magnificent Sterling Silver Inkwell or Ink Stand. This one has an ornate Sterling Stand which has a frame in the center which holds a glass Jar with Sterling cover, and has a frame behind for holding up to three pens. On either side is a sterling box which would be used to hold stamps. There is a putti in a shell and green man style image in the ornate filigree border around the back and sides. The bottom of the Frame is marked with the Boston firm of "Bigelow, Kennard, & Co" which operated from 1830 till they closed in 1922. The lid of the Ink Jar is actually marked by Gorham, and may have been a later replacement. one of the side pieces has come loose and will need to be re-soldered, and one foot has also been repaired. It makes a fabulous Sterling Silver Ink Stand, which is sure to accent any desk it rests upon.
