This is a lidded and hinged gilded casket box in deep bas relief of classical figures. It is a large one measuring; 9 1/4 inches wide x 5 1/2 inches deep and it stands at 4 inches in height. The relief painting is over the gilding. The top depicts a woman holding a falcon walking toward a chariot attended by cherubs. The picture is framed by a beaded band with many colors used. The side panels are a bit more adult with the female nude on the front and the male on the back. There is no interior decoration. The mark is no. 3537 as listed in Rontgen's reference book on marks.
This piece is very good condition. I see one little gold loss scrape over the right end cherub (see picture) and the gilding slightly worn between the falcon and cherub on the lid.. There are no chips, bites or cracks. The brass rims of the lid and box come together nicely and the clamp secures.
