This is a portrait of the Kaiser in 1912 before WWI actually became "world" or the "great war". At this time Central Europe produced amazing postcards, many embossed and beautifully colored. This one is a treasure as it is a table top card...meant to display. The oval portrait might first appear to be in sepia, but it actually is nicely colored and the skin color is superb. The opposite side is a bouquet of a fan spray of dried green material with four cloth flowers neatly arranged. Its rather impressive. The outside of the card bear a picture from the Alps. The back is for mailing (it was not mailed) and I believe this card may have been produced in Bern. There is a precise little hole at the edge through both sides that is meant to have a string or ribbon to tie the card together. That is gone. Otherwise the card is in very decent shape. A bit dirty on the outside and turned with age, but remarkable on the inside for the portrait and spray.
If you are a collector of WWI or German things of this period...such as lead soldiers, famous ships or the like, this is the type of accent that will add great interest to your display. So it isn't just for postcard collectors.
