This beautiful Nippon dish is oval in shape and features open handles on both sides. Designs depict a Samurai warrior within a fruit shaped medallion, a hut by the sea, and two medallions of an animal head( I think dragon) at flower blossoms. If you look carefully at this section you may have a different view of the depiction, and I'll leave to you. The whole dish is decorated. The colors are mainly beige, grey, deep carnelian and blue. The diamond shaped grid portions are made with lines of gold leaf or white enamel and little clusters of jeweled dots of black or white make a design with alternate rows of grid. The piece has a bit of "glisten" and shows nicely.
The dish measures 7 1/4 by 4 3/4 inches and stands 1 1/2 inches. Nippon was made before 1921. The dish has excellent condition with no cracks, crazing, chips. There is some loss of gold around the edge which is interesting because the gold is over a red line, so you really don't see it as gold loss. This is repeated in the fence design where gold is brushed over the carnelian. The right handle also has loss of gold on the top stripe. The dish actually has a foot and it has a gold band to finish and that is in very good shape.
The bottom stamp is the green wreath enclosing TN; "hand-painted" is above; Nippon underneath the wreath.
