From what I can tell, this tin battery operated piggy cook from Japan came out in the 1950's. For his age, he's in really good shape although I can't get him to work. My guess is the problem lies in the on/off switch on the side. Moving it up and down into the on and off positions, something isn't engaging inside. It's just to loose in its motion. I'm thinking you should actually feel like a little click or something in each position. I'm sure that an avid toy collector who doesn't currently have this one could bring him back to life without much of an effort.
The colors are still nice and bright on this piece and the battery compartment is really clean, no rust and still has the compartment cover. Unfortunately, I don't have the original box with this piece.
