Bold in scale, wonderful condition and beautifully made , this French sterling silver slip locket dates from around 1900. So called slip lockets for the way they open, notched at the bottom, the top slides away to reveal a single bevelled mirror inside , the silvering of the mirror a little spotted with age but mostly still clear and the perfect size to repair one's lipstick on the spot. .......
Graceful oval shape with pretty repousse' decoration, the top is worked an asymmetrical pattern of naturalistic swirls and flora , the back is similarly worked with a little less . .... Tiny French marks at the top of the fixed ring and the original oval bale nicely complete the locket .
Free of dents, substantial heft in the hand at 31.7 Grams . Included as shown , the newer sterling silver chain , 24" long, marked 925 on the spring ring clasp.
