Item : Flow Blue Plate Featuring Mission Santa Barbara
Origin : Originally made in England , circa 1890 for various retailers throughout the country . This particular plate was made for A.A. Poole, jeweler and optician on beautiful downtown State Street in Santa Barbara California .
Marks : Back stamp reads : SANTA BARBARA MISSION ERECTED 1786 SANTA BARBARA CALIFORNIA A. A. POOLE SANTA BARBARA CALIFORNIA
Materials : Earthenware pottery with cobalt blue glaze
Size : 10" Diameter
Scale : Adult, 10" dinner plate size
Condition : This beautiful and fairly rare flow blue Mission Santa Barbara plate is in perfect condition . No chips , cracks or repairs . The only thing to note for accuracy is superficial crazing , normal for pieces this age and material .
Comments : With a carved scalloped edge , decorated with roses all around the border and the image of The Queen of The Missions , Mission Santa Barbara, depicted in the center . A perfect momento of one of the prettiest places in the country , sold at A.A. Poole Jeweler and Optician located on State Street , the main street in town that ends at a perfect spot at the Pacific Ocean .
Gorgeous, collectible antique flow blue was a process first discovered by accident in England in the late 1700's when the transfer-ware tissue paper lifted too soon and the edges were blurred . .......The accidental inventors liked the result so much that they turned the process into an 'on-purpose' !
