Antique Indian Embroidered & Mirrored Kutch Jacket
This wonderful jacket was probably made in the 1960's from a beautifully embroidered and mirrored Indian Kutch textile. The extensive embellishments are rendered on a sturdy linen dyed a rich, deep magenta red, and the jacket is nicely tailored for a stylish, open-front mid-century silhouette with a Nehru collar, a yoke across the shoulders and two-part sleeves with secondary seams a few inches below the amscyes, probably a concession to working with the limitations of an existing textile. There are a number of exotic design motifs, some in equally exotic embroidery techniques including intricately interwoven knots, and the silvered mirror pieces feel hand-cut and very thin through the linen. In excellent condition with a cracked but stable mirrored piece, an occasional minor loss of embroidery stitches and a small stable hole on the collar lining, measures 21 1/2-inches long with an unexpanded 38 bust and waist and 42 hip.
