Antique Victorian 14K Yellow Gold Chrysoprase Ring.
A richly colored, 13.50 x 9.79-mm (1/2+ x 3/8+ inches), Chrysoprase cabochon, an estimated 3.2 carats, is nicely showcased by the beautiful gallery and shoulders of this fine antique ring. Sinuous vines with leaves and tiny buds meander in graceful curves and volutes around the entire gallery, framing the translucent gemstone in a pretty foliate wreath, and there are larger-scale foliate motifs on each shoulder adding strength and mass to the more delicate design elements.
In excellent antique condition, marked and tests positive for 14K gold, measures a size 7.25 (sizable) and weighs 3.8 grams.
Chrysoprase is a quartz family gemstone. Quartz is one of the world's most abundant, diverse and important gemstones and has been set in jewelry for centuries. It can be "crystal-clear" like the popular "Pools-Of-Light" orbs, translucent or opaque, and may be found in any color of the rainbow. It's hardness and durability make it well-suited for any jewelry application. Other than Chrysoprase, some of the most familiar quartz family gemstones are Amethyst, Citrine, Ametrine, Tiger's Eye, Hawk's Eye, Chalcedony, Onyx, Aventurine, Carnelian, Bloodstone, Agate, Rose-, Smoky- and Rutilated-Quartz.
